Bio

Maiya Brandt is a ceramicist who grew up on a small hobby farm in the town of Merton, WI. Her artistic journey began at a young age while attending Prairie Hill Waldorf School, where watercolor and colored pencils were practiced regularly. Her passion for art only grew as the years went on and when she was not feeding her horses and goats, she spent time feeding her creative side. While attending UW-La Crosse, she began pursuing a degree in art education, which evolved into an art major with a minor in photography. Currently, Maiya spends the majority of her time in the ceramics studio at Carroll University or hiking the Ice Age Trail with her dog by her side.

Artist Statement

I grew up in an environment where nothing was rushed, where learning came through observation, curiosity, and working with my hands. In a world that moves so quickly, I return to that foundation through clay.

Inspired by nature and the quiet moments it offers, my practice is rooted in presence and attentiveness. I create pieces that invite connection, whether it’s a morning coffee mug that becomes part of a daily ritual or a serving dish that brings people together at the table. My work supports a slower, more thoughtful way of living.
